Ciara Boniface is a writer, director, and editor born in New Orleans and raised in Dallas. Now based in Los Angeles, her narrative work is rooted in the genres of horror and drama, exploring elements of magical realism. Influenced by her Southern upbringing, her stories highlight the complexities of Black family, grief, and identity.
In February 2018, Ciara won a nationwide search for the ‘Next Visionary Filmmaker’, an award presented by Walt Disney Studios, Nissan, and Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay. Her most recent short film, Blue Porcelain, was an official selection at the 2022 Micheaux Film Festival. Ciara is currently developing her first feature, The Okra Tree, inspired by Blue Porcelain.
Ciara has edited for companies such as Apple Music, YouTube, and Serato. She was also an assistant editor on Thelma, a 2024 Sundance official selection directed by Josh Margolin and starring June Squibb. Currently, Ciara is a freelance editor at Legion Post. And frequently freelances at the two-time Academy Award-winning short documentary company, Breakwater Studios, as an editor.
